This course is intended to provide beginning structural engineers, architects, inspectors, plan reviewers and building officials with a basic understanding of structural analysis and structural plan review. The class will start with a description of both lateral and vertical structural systems and their complete load paths. The instructors will discuss how structural loads are determined and applied to the structure as well as the imposed internal forces, which are a part of the structural analysis. Chapter 16 of the IBC will be discussed. The class will include plan review examples. Case studies in structural failures will also be presented. Recommended texts: 2015 IBC.
