Todd Jilbert, Firestop Consulting Associates. This class is designed to educate participants in the fundamentals of inspecting through penetration firestop systems, fire-resistive joint systems, and perimeter fire containment systems. The course is non-proprietary to particular brands of firestop fill materials. It covers the building codes and standards pertaining to the firestopping industry and will cover in detail the inspection standards ASTM E 2174 and ASTM E 2393. Both the destructive and witnessed verification methods will be discussed. The course presents a systems based approach to firestopping and includes detailed information on how to read and inspect firestop systems and manufacturer’s engineering judgments. The goal of the course is to equip the participant with the knowledge essential to properly inspect firestop systems.
