Tom Meyers. This two part course targets the most difficult element of building safety: Assessment of existing buildings. The first part discusses techniques used to accurately understand the existing building’s potential safety performance, focusing on major life-safety deficiencies and strategies to mitigate them. The second part addresses the major “legal” demands on the existing building as codified in the International Fire Code and International Existing Building Code. At the conclusion of the course, attendees should feel more comfortable performing an evaluation and in understanding what is required to raise the building to minimum levels of acceptable safety.
