Eagle County Government is hiring a Building Inspector 1, 2 or 3. The position offer will be based on years of experience and number of ICC certifications. See details below.

The Building Inspector performs code compliance inspections for all new construction, renovation, alteration, addition and repair projects in the community. Additionally, the position performs plan reviews of peripheral permits and installations to ensure proper code compliance is achieved. The position ensures that minimum health and safety standards are followed to protect resident and visitor occupants in all buildings within Eagle County.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.

$2500 Bonus: $1000 sign-on bonus, paid out on employee’s first paycheck & up to $1500 retention bonus, paid out after 6 months of employment, based on attendance and performance.

Essential Functions:

Building Inspections and Peripheral Plan Review

Interprets the building codes to ensure intent and compliance are met.
Reviews applications and issues peripheral permits, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Verifies contractor’s licenses as necessary.
Performs building, plumbing, mechanical and related inspections of commercial and residential construction projects to ensure code compliance.
Performs commercial and residential plan reviews to verify that drawings for new construction, renovations, alterations, additions and repairs are code compliant, as needed.
Identifies potentially unsafe or illegal conditions at construction sites and reports findings to the Chief Building Official. May work with code enforcement to mitigate issues.
Schedules all the daily inspection requests on active building, planning, and public works permits.
Assists with the review of new codes and new construction products for code approval and adoption.
Other

Observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials safely and reports potentially unsafe conditions.
Serves the community by demonstrating Eagle County Government mission and core values and following relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Building Inspector 1:

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

At least four (4) years related experience in building inspection, code enforcement/compliance, construction, project management, or a closely related technical field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Hold and maintain a valid State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician license preferred.
Associates Degree with emphasis in Building Construction/Inspection Technology, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering preferred.
Must obtain at least 1 ICC recognized certification as a Building Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Commercial & Residential Plumbing Inspector, Commercial or Residential Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, or other inspection category as approved by the Building Official within the first year (a Journeyman Electrician’s license, Master Electrician’s license, Journeyman Plumber’s license, or Master Plumber’s license can be completed to substitute an ICC Certification).
Requires a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. This position will be expected to travel to our various locations throughout Eagle County.
Building Inspector 2:

All of the qualifications of a building inspector 1 and;
Must have at least 1 year of experience as a building inspector on behalf of a governmental entity.
Must obtain at least 2 ICC recognized certifications (a Journeyman Electrician’s license, Master Electrician’s license, Journeyman Plumber’s license, or Master Plumber’s license can be completed to substitute an ICC Certification).
Building Inspector 3:

All of the qualifications of a building inspector 1 and;
Must have at least 3 years of experience as a building inspector on behalf of a governmental entity.
Must obtain at least 4 ICC recognized certifications (a Journeyman Electrician’s license, Master Electrician’s license, Journeyman Plumber’s license, or Master Plumber’s license can be completed to substitute an ICC Certification).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing including the use of electronic mail, and the ability to prepare and present documents pertaining to construction and code related issues.
Solid knowledge of accepted construction industry standards and procedures.
Ability to read and understand construction drawings and highly technical documents relating to building codes, construction specifications, and standards.
Excellent interpersonal skills that include the ability to be team-oriented, establish effective working relationships and display exemplary customer service skills.
Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to apply the building code requirements to actual construction site conditions.
Thorough working knowledge of the International Code Council code versions and the adopted County ordinances and regulations.
In-depth understanding of permit and inspection processes and procedures and the use of the permitting and plan review software
