NATURE OF WORK

This is a highly responsible division manager position that directs the entire building function for the Town of Frederick and currently reports to the Assistant Town Manager. The incumbent will be an exemplary role model of leadership, with the ability to be data driven and strategic in their approach. The Chief Building Official is politically savvy enough to understand the strategic goals, objectives and sensitivities of the elected body while remaining apolitical as an employee. The Building Division is responsible for administering the Town’s overall building codes and other regulatory ordinances. Work involves administering the day-to-day activities of the Building Division which includes inspection of buildings and their appurtenances throughout the Town to ensure adherence to Town building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, energy, accessibility and other related codes and applicable standards of construction, maintenance, health, and safety. Work is performed independently with responsibility for making final determinations in accordance with established general policies and is reviewed by the Assistant Town Manager through reports and conferences. The ideal candidate will be driven to be a leader in the region and among their peers working to set Frederick apart as a premier division and employer of choice.

This position acts as a technical advisor to the Assistant Town Manager, Board of Trustees and other municipal officials on buildings codes and other matters relating to building construction and development.
