The Aurora Building Division has a large staff (80+ employees) and due to increasing construction activity we need more staff!!  Some of the major projects occurring currently include the Gaylord of the Rockies Hotel and Convention Center, Fitzsimons Medical Campus, Amazon, Transit oriented development as well as large single and multi-family developments.  You will be able to perform inspections on complex and challenging projects with experienced inspectors who will help you to become a top level inspector.

Education:  High School Diploma or GED.

Experience:  At least 2 years progressively responsible work experience in certified area of inspection work or associated trades.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge:  Knowledge of design, construction, and structural equipment and systems; municipal building codes and enforcement.

Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; provide technical advice to builders, contractors, City employees, and the general public; coordinate special projects and workload distribution with employees and other departments for inspections; conduct inspections and render an objective and impartial decision; and read, interpret, and apply construction codes, blueprints, work plans, and maps in assigned specialty area(s). Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Skills:  Skill in providing technical advice in a specialized construction trade areas; communicate verbally and in writing with building contractors, landowners, developers, and the general public regarding building inspections and code intent.



Applicant must have an ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification.  Additional certifications are expected to be obtained during your first year of employment and a 10% salary increase will be paid for each certification obtained, up to 3 total.

Must possess a Colorado Driver’s License with a good driving history.  This position may require the incumbent to regularly use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, computers, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
