About Our Job

Denver’s Community Planning and Development Department-Building Inspections Section is looking to add an Electrical Inspector- Limited  to assist our building inspection team to promote and preserve building safety.

Some of the day to day:

Perform complex on-site inspections of new and existing electrical and fire alarm installations and operations in all classes and occupancies of buildings to ensure and enforce compliance with the Denver Building Code and Amendments related to the National Electric Code and the National Fire Protection Association, Article 72.

Determine compliance or non-compliance with code requirements and recommend appropriate corrections, enforcement, and/or the necessary compliance action to remedy the compliance issue(s).

Investigate complaints of code violations, recommends appropriate corrective and/or enforcement action which may include issuing “stop work” orders, summons, and/or canceling permits and reinvestigating to verify code compliance. Interpreting and explaining rules, regulations, ordinances, and standards to property owners, contractors, and the public is also required.

Prepare written reports and maintain records of inspections performed and comply with standard safety rules and procedures common to the electrical trade.

Successful candidate must provide their own vehicle for performing field assignments.  The City shall reimburse officers and employees using personal vehicles to conduct City business in accordance with the mileage rates adopted by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for the period involved.

About You 

Our ideal candidate has:

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel is preferred.

We know that you time is valuable. So please do not apply unless you possess the following minimum qualifications.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate.

Three years of experience as a journeyman or Master Electrician.

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel is preferred.

Licensure and/or Certification:

Possession of a valid Journeyman Electrician’s License or Master Electrician License issued by the State of Colorado at the time of application.

By position, requires other designated certifications by the end of the probationary period.

Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of application.
