Denver’s Community Planning and Development Department has a Construction Inspector vacancy with the Building Inspections Section. We are seeking a candidate that is highly motivated, innovative and progressive with expertise in performing building construction/building site inspections to assure compliance with the Denver Building Code and Amendments related to the International Building Code and International Residential Building Code.
Some of the day to day duties:
Performs complex on-site inspections on new construction, alterations, and roofing construction on all types of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure and enforce compliance with the Denver Building Code and Amendments related to the International Building Code and International Residential Building Code.
Monitor compliance or non-compliance with regulations by making an initial inspection during the first phase of construction and following up with further inspections throughout the construction project.
Investigate complaints of code violations, recommend appropriate corrective and/or enforcement action which may include issuing “stop work” orders, summons, and/or canceling permits; and re-investigates to verify code compliance.
Prepare electronic and written reports and maintains records of inspections performed.
Complies with standard safety rules and procedures common to the trade.
Work Days: Monday thru Friday (some Saturdays or alternative work hours may be requested).
Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Our ideal candidate has:
Experience inspecting construction/building sites to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
Experience Investigating complaints of code violations and recommending appropriate corrective and/or enforcement action.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
A reliable vehicle for transportation.

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Five years of construction experience which may include inspection work and/or design experience.
Licensure and/or Certification:
Possession of one of the following certifications at the time or hire and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment:
International Code Council Certification as a Building Inspector.
International Code Council Certification as a Residential Combination Inspector.
International Code Council Certification as a Commercial Inspector.
International Code Council Certification as a General Contractor.
Supervisor Certificate – Construction A issued by the City and County of Denver.
International Code Council Certification as a National Standard Roofing Contractor/Subcontractor – N14
International Code Council Certification as a National Standard Shingle Roofing – N15 Certification.
By position, requires other designated certifications by the end of the probationary period.
Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of application.
