About Our Job

Denver’s Community Planning and Development Department has a Plumbing Inspector – Limited vacancy with the – Building Inspections Section. This position will perform inspections of the installation and operations of indoor plumbing systems to ensure compliance with City specifications or related codes within the Denver Building Code and Amendments related to the International Plumbing Code.  Inspections are performed to comply with standard safety rules and procedures common to the plumbing trade.

This position is Limited but eligible for benefits. 

Some of the day to day responsibilities include: 

Performs complex on-site inspections on plumbing, fire protection systems, and related equipment installations and operations in new construction and remodeling to ensure and enforce compliance with the Denver Building Code and/or City specifications.

Determines compliance or non-compliance with code/specification requirements and recommends appropriate corrections, enforcement, and/or compliance action to remedy the compliance issue(s).

Investigates complaints of code/specification violations, recommends appropriate corrective and/or enforcement action which may include issuing “stop work” orders, summons, and/or canceling permits; and reinvestigates to verify code compliance.

Interprets and explains rules, regulations, ordinance, and standards to property owners, contractors, and the public.

Prepare written reports and maintains records of inspections performed.

Complies with standard safety rules and procedures common to the trade.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Days: Monday thru Friday (some Saturdays or alternative work hours may be requested)

Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

About You

Our ideal candidate has:

Class A Fire Protection Supervisor Certificate issued by the City and County of Denver

Fire Suppression System Inspector Certificate issued by the State of Colorado

We realize that your time is valuable, so please refrain from applying if you do not possess at least the following:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate.

Three years of experience as a journeyman plumber.

Possession of a valid Journeyman Plumber’s License issued by the State of Colorado at the time of application.

Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of application.

A reliable vehicle for transportation is required for field assignments.
