SALARY:  Monthly  $4,997.00 – $7,194.00  :  Annually $59,964.00 – $86,328.00

DESCRIPTION:
Boulder County Community Planning and Permitting is seeking to hire a Plans Examiner. The Plans Examiner will perform complex and technical duties related to building advice, permit applications, plan review, and inspections. This position requires significant knowledge and background in general building code requirements and conducting building plan review and occasional inspections.

This is a full-time, benefited position. This position will work Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm with some flexibility.  The work location will be at the Courthouse Annex located on 2045 13 St, Boulder, Co. 80302. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt.

As of December 1, 2021, Boulder County requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or request an approved accommodation within ten days of accepting an offer of employment. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after completion of a two-dose mRNA series or one dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $59,964.00- $74,000.00 Annually
Classification Salary Range: $59,964.00  – $86,328.00  Annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1. Reviewing applications for construction within the County’s jurisdiction to determine compliance with appropriate building codes.
2. Assisting the public by providing information to applicants regarding building permit procedures.
3. Comparing structural, mechanical, and architectural designs with building code requirements.
4. Assist in developing, promoting and implementing policies and codes to promote sustainable and resilient construction.
5. Assists or is responsible for coordinating workshops, speakers, and other events to educate and promote sustainable and resilient building programs.
6. Interpret Building Code requirements as necessary.
7. Determines construction type and occupancy classification of buildings in accordance with the Building Code.
8. Determine appropriate code requirements based on type of construction and occupancy use of building.
9. Performs field inspections as required.
10. Trains and gives general direction to other employees.
11. Performs related duties as required.
12. May be reassigned in emergency situations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Boulder County is looking for well-qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in residential construction as a plan reviewer, building inspector, builder or a designer.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in building design or another construction-related field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
A concise understanding of the International Residential Code, International Building Code and an understanding of high-performance residential construction is required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
